Why do Chinese stores use those loop-style motorcycle locks to lock their front doors? Is it some kind of law? Even the new Starbucks below our apartment...

One reason is that the staff can lock up the store without having the keys (so the boss does not have to give everyone a key, which is safer). Another is that these locks are cheaper and more difficult to break than the locks on the bottom of glass doors.Just did an office renovation, where you learn this kind of things :-)
Ahh, that explains it. It's just so ubiquitous! I figured there had to be a good reason or two.
Maybe i think this is just the bad phenomenon in Shanghai.
I don't like it ahh...
